Crackdown on cash machine fraud
ATM
Experts say card fraud is usually carried out by organised gangs
Experts from the City of London Police are helping officers in the South West to crack down on cash card fraud.

"Card cloning" crimes have been increasing in Devon and Cornwall with the use of hi-tech equipment.

Thieves are using electronic skimming cards and cameras to record customers' details and produce fake cards.

Devon and Cornwall Police want to raise the profile of this type of theft and warn the public what to watch out for when using cash dispensing machines.

Two detectives from London who are experts in this field say that hole-in-the-wall theft tends to be carried out by organised gangs.

There were 290 incidents of cash machine fraud in Devon and Cornwall between February and June this year.
