The clash will form the centrepiece of Exeter's centenary celebrations

Exeter City Football Club are playing Brazil's masters at St James Park on Sunday.

The Brazilian side will be mainly made up of players who helped win the 1994 World Cup in the US.

The match is being played on the 90th anniversary of what is recognised as Brazil's first match, played against Exeter City in 1914.

It is hoped the fixture will provide a much-needed financial boost to the debt-ridden club.

The charity Childrens Aid, which works to provide safe accommodation for a number of homeless children in Rio de Janeiro, will also benefit.

In 1914 Exeter City, who were relegated from the Third Division last year, became the first professional club in the world to play Brazil.

Exeter drew 3-3 with Brazil when the teams met at the Laranjeiras Stadium in Rio on 21 July, 1914.

The home clash with the so-called Brazil Masters will form the centrepiece of Exeter's 2004 centenary celebrations.
