Residents meet over landfill site
People who are against plans to expand a landfill site near their village in Devon will meet on Friday to discuss how to block the scheme.

The proposals have been put to Devon County Council by South West waste management company Viridor.

Viridor already operates a number of waste management sites across the UK.

But the proposal to extend the Heathfield site near the village of Chudleigh Knighton has not been well received by some local residents.

Public consultation

A petition against the scheme has been signed by more than 100 people.

The plans are to extend the landfill site to accept more commercial, industrial and household waste.

An integrated waste management facility where household items for recycling would be sorted would also be built under the plans.

Viridor has said it has carried out extensive public consultation on the expansion plans and received positive feedback.

The scheme will go before Devon County Council's planning executive in the next few months.
