Salcombe: Beach for sale
A 19-square-feet patch of beach in a south Devon resort is expected to fetch 10,000.

The package of land, at Bakeswell Steps in Cliffs Road, is just below the Salcombe Yacht Club.

Agents Edward Symmons expect interest from sailors, sunbathers and local businesses in the plot which is owned by South Hams District Council.

But there will be no restful seclusion for the new owner - the rest of the area is a well used walking route.

Andrew Wood, of Edward Symmons, said: "We have mainly had calls from people who think it would be fun to own.

"There's really no other commercial aspect to it. It's for people who want to be able to haul up from the beach, have a drink in the yacht club and go home."

New owners should also be wary that high tides sweep over the beach twice a day.

South Hams District Council, said the site was one of several up for sale after a property review had concluded that it was surplus to requirements.
