Air Southwest has added Jersey to its list of destinations |
A new daily return flight between Plymouth and Jersey has been launched. The service is being provided by Air Southwest and is the latest boost for Plymouth City Airport, which is owned by Sutton Harbour Holdings.
On Monday, Air Wales introduced a second direct daily flight between Plymouth and Newcastle.
Passengers can now fly from Plymouth to eight separate destinations across the UK and Ireland.
Runway extension
Air Wales now flies from Plymouth to Newcastle, Cardiff, Cork and Dublin, while Air Southwest, also owned by Sutton Harbour Holdings, provides services to Jersey, London Gatwick, Bristol and Manchester.
Sutton Harbour Holdings Finance Director Nigel Godefroy said: "The second Air Wales flight to Newcastle and the start of our own Jersey service is further good news for air travellers.
"It confirms Plymouth's increasingly important role as a regional airport, offering a wide choice of scheduled services."
Last week, Plymouth City Council gave a commitment to safeguard land around the airport for a possible runway extension.
Sutton Harbour Holdings is now working with the council and other regional authorities and organisations on a detailed master plan for Plymouth Airport, looking at options for development over the next 10 years and possible land use plans up to 2030.
Although there are no firm plans for expansion at this stage, the government's Aviation White Paper recommends that all airport operators explore options for growth.
