Train ticket scheme proving hit
A scheme to promote travel on the Tamar Valley rail line has received a good response from local commuters.

Rail travellers can now buy books of 10 single tickets for travel between Plymouth and stations on the Devon and Cornwall border from their local shops.

The ticket books went on sale two months ago as part of a joint venture by Wessex Trains and the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership.

But within a few weeks more than 100 books have been sold.

The take-up has surpassed the expectations of the two firms.

Buying the tickets in books of 10 is cheaper than buying five standard or cheap day returns for the same distance, although regular travellers are still better off purchasing a Devon Railcard.

The ticket book is not available from train stations or on the trains themselves.

Instead it can be bought from a handful of shops, including Bere Alston Post Office, and the General Stores in Bere Alston and Bere Ferrers.
