Hospital's status under threat
Derriford Hospital
Derriford has treated more patients than expected
Plymouth's Derriford Hospital could lose its two-star status in the next hospital performance tables because it has been treating more patients than expected.

The hospital is currently overspent by more than 6m and is struggling to cut costs.

Thirty non-medical posts were cut recently and more will follow.

But high numbers of emergency admissions and pressures to meet waiting targets mean it is likely to overspend by 4m by the end of the financial year.

A hospital spokesman said: "The hospital is doing well in all the other areas in which it is assessed, but money problems could still harm its star rating."

Many of the region's trusts already have a top score of three stars and are thinking about becoming foundation hospitals.
