Father receives son's kidney
Keith and Richard Forbes
The transplant should mean the end of dialysis for Keith Forbes
A Devon man who has been waiting for a kidney transplant for 10 years has received a replacement organ from his son.

Keith Forbes, 47, from Exeter, underwent the two-hour transplant operation at a hospital in Bristol on Monday.

Mr Forbes' daughter and his son Richard, 20, both agreed to help and it was Richard who proved the best match.

It should mean Mr Forbes will no longer have to go through lengthy dialysis sessions, three times a week.

He has been receiving dialysis at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RDE) and has been carrying a pager with him for the years he has been needing the transplant, waiting for a call saying an organ was available.

Richard has come round and has already asked for a KFC
Jane Forbes

Mother and wife Jane Forbes said: "As far as I know everything has gone well. It is early days but it is good news so far.

"I am exhausted but Richard has come round and has already asked for a KFC.

"It is marvellous what he has done. I am totally overwhelmed."

She added that her husband's new kidney was working following the operation.

She said: "They have both been awake and talking and early indications are that everything is fine and the kidney is working."
