Swan dies in attack
A swan has been killed at Exeter Quay in an appalling case of animal cruelty.

The swan's neck was broken and it had been repeatedly smashed against the concrete, before being thrown back into the water.

The police are appealing for anyone who was in the quay area at about 1400 on Monday and may have seen something to come forward.

A dead swan was recovered by staff from the riverside Saddles and Paddles bike and boat hire shop.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested and bailed in connection with the incident.

The man, who has not been charged, has been ordered to return to Heavitree police station in the city on 5 February.
