Children shot by air rifle
Scene of airgun attack
There was a 90-minute gap between the two shootings
Two children received treatment in hospital after being shot by an air rifle in two incidents in an east Devon town.

The shootings took place in the Amory Park area of Tiverton on Saturday.

A 12-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl were injured. The boy required surgery at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to remove a pellet from his neck and the girl was treated for minor bruising.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested by police and was later released on bail.

Rifle seized

The first shooting was reported at 1519 GMT.

A Devon and Cornwall police spokesman said they were called following reports that "people were being shot at".

The second incident was called in at 1652 GMT.

Sergeant Steve Punder of Devon and Cornwall Police said: "These are hard pellets which could cause serious injury.

"If it hits someone in the ear, the face, the neck or the eye, it can be very serious."

Police later arrested a 14-year-old boy and an air rifle was seized. He was released on bail after questioning.
