Bomb Squad and police
The Royal Navy squad has now called in the Royal Engineers
Police are guarding a site overnight where a suspected World War II bomb was discovered in south Devon.

The 1,000 kilogramme (2,200 lb) device was found at in a quarry at Steer Point, near Brixton, at about 1450 BST on Thursday.

An exclusion cordon of 1,000 metres was set up around the site and the quarry and a number of surrounding cottages were evacuated.

Royal Navy bomb disposal personnel have been assessing the device and have called in an Army disposal team from the Royal Engineers which plans to deal with the bomb on Friday morning.

The bomb is believed to be a German-made, electrically fused device

It was found by men who were working in the quarry clearing away clay.

The bomb was uncovered and one eyewitness said the device rolled past him.

The Royal Engineers hope to defuse the bomb on site so it can be taken away for disposal.
