James Miller had won numerous awards for his work |
The Israeli army has agreed to open a military police investigation into the shooting of a north Devon cameraman. James Miller, 34, from Braunton, was killed while filming a documentary about the lives of children on the Gaza strip.
His family believe he was shot by an Israeli soldier and have been calling for a full inquiry into what happened.
Lawyers acting for them in Israel have welcomed the inquiry - which could take at least a month - as a positive move.
White flag
Father-of-two Mr Miller died in May as he was on a filming mission in Rafah in the Gaza Strip, talking to Palestinian families with journalist Saira Shah.
His family believe that he was targeted by an Israeli soldier and shot in the neck as he waved a white flag.
At first, the Israeli authorities said he was shot in crossfire.
But witnesses who were with him dispute that.
Subsequent investigations showed that he was killed by a bullet used by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF).
The British Government, and the Millers' MP, Nick Harvey, have been pressing the Israelis to hold a full and open investigation.
Mr Miller had won a number of awards for the films he made, including Beneath The Veil with Saira Shah, about life in Afghanistan under the Taleban.
