Two arrested over heroin death released
Rachel Whitear
Images of Rachel's dead body were used in an anti-drugs campaign
Two men arrested in connection with the death of heroin addict Rachel Whitear, who died in a Devon bedsit, have been released by Wiltshire police.

One of the men has been freed on police bail, the other without charge.

Both men, who are from the Midlands, were helping police with the re-investigation into the 21-year-old's death three years ago.

It was originally thought the student died of an overdose, but the case was re-opened after tests showed there was not enough of the drug in her blood to have caused death.

Rachel, from Ledbury, Herefordshire, was found dead in a flat in Exmouth in Devon in May 2000.

The fresh investigation into her death was launched earlier this year and is being conducted by Wiltshire Police.

The Wiltshire force was chosen to head the investigation after the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary voluntarily referred the case to the Police Complaints Authority (PCA).

Rachel's parents, Pauline and Mick Holcroft from Withington, allowed graphic images of her dead body to be used in a campaign warning of the dangers of drug abuse.
