Dealers target Plymouth
Drugs arrest
Police say the Catch a Rat campaign has been a success
Fears are growing that organised criminal groups from cities such as Liverpool are travelling to Plymouth to sell drugs.

Police believe they are attracted by high prices for drugs like heroin, which sell for double the price in Plymouth compared with other parts of the country.

DC Keith Homan from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "We certainly have elements from Liverpool coming down to sell crack cocaine and heroin and with the success they get, that will breed more success and more of them will come down."

Police say they are more than ready for them and they point to the success of the Catch a Rat campaign, which encourages residents to shop city drug dealers.

Since its launch last month there have been 241 calls which have resulted in 76 people being charged or cautioned.

A further 51 have been bailed pending further enquires.

Police now say they are considering keeping the campaign running.
