Airports 'key to region's future'
Exeter Airport
Exeter Airport: Tourism links
Exeter Airport and Plymouth Airport are being asked to work together in a joint initiative.

The Devon and Cornwall Business Council says it wants to see Plymouth Airport developed as a business airport to service the city's manufacturing industries.

And it wants investment at Exeter Airport to focus on the tourism links.

The council has set up a joint marketing committee which should allow the two airports to work together, instead of competing.

Great opportunities

The council said it believes there are great opportunities ahead, but these will only be met if the airports start co-operating.

Tim Jones of the council said: "They both have unique characteristics.

"Plymouth is very much in the heart of where manufacturers want to be, whereas Exeter has a much broader international capacity, with a low-cost tourist facility.

"If those two can be put together effectively, and marketed better, then we think we'd end up with two much more effective airports."
