Five Cornish beaches have been named among the best in Europe enabling them to fly the coveted blue flag. They have been honoured for clean water, litter-free sands and excellent facilities.
Last year only one beach in Cornwall was on the list.
Penwith District Council says it is proud to be the only district in Cornwall to be able to fly three blue flags, at Porthmeor and Porthminster - both at St Ives - and at Sennen Cove near Land's End.
Marinas recognised
The authority says it is a reflection of its pro-active beach management.
Porthminster and Sennen Cove are being honoured for the first time.
Another new entry is Falmouth's Gyllyngvase beach.
The fifth, Polzeath, retains its place on the list.
The blue flag is described as the most recognised beach award in Europe.
Blue flags are also awarded to marinas and Fowey Harbour is one of only twelve in the country to qualify.
