Power cuts after sub-station fire

Engineers are working to return electricity supplies to hundreds of properties in Derby following a fire at a sub-station.

Almost 4,000 customers were affected by the cut on Tuesday evening, but more than 3,200 were reconnected after an hour, said provider Central Networks.

The blaze at the Dean Street plant was already out when fire crews arrived.

Engineers are working alongside Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service to reconnect more than 600 properties.

Apologising to customers for the inconvenience caused, a spokeswoman for Central Networks said: "At just before 9pm power had been returned to more than 3,200 properties.

"There are 635 still off - a mix of commercial and residential. It may be some time before everyone's power is back on but our engineers are working at the site now, alongside the fire service."
