A canal on the outskirts of Derby could be closed for several days after part of a bridge collapsed and a trailer full of fertiliser fell from it. A tractor was towing its load between two farms across the Trent and Mersey canal at Stenson when it became loose and crashed over the side. The man driving the tractor managed to escape unhurt. Officials from British Waterways visited the site on Monday to assess the damage. They reckon it could be some time before the area is cleared and the bridge made safe. Meanwhile, the accident means that boats are unable to get through the busy stretch of water. British Waterways staff assess the damage
