Airport copes with record numbers
Staff at East Midlands Airport are urging passengers to allow extra time for the journeys as the Christmas getaway begins.

Spokeswoman Amy Buckley said staff were expecting 170,000 people to travel through the airport during the Christmas break.

"Please allow plenty of time when travelling to the airport as roads tend to get very busy," said Ms Buckley.

She added almost 8,500 people boarded flights from the airport on Friday.

The passenger figures are up 13% on last year.

The most popular destinations for Christmas breaks from East Midlands Airport are said to be Dublin and Alicante in Spain.
