Thieves wreck community centre
Damaged building
Thieves crawled along the floor to rip out fixtures from the toilets
Burglars ripped out copper pipes and fittings at a Derby community centre causing thousands of pounds of damages.

Thieves broke into the Sinfin Community Living Centre, a charity that works with people with learning difficulties, at the weekend.

The centre had to be closed as the broken copper pipes also caused extensive flooding.

The price of copper has recently doubled but the value of the stolen pipes is thought to be less than 100.

Centre manager Gary Pearce described what happened. "The thieves have come in through the kitchen window, stripped everything out - the boilers, the pipes, everything.

"They've then crawled along the floor, entered the toilets and done exactly the same."

Mr Pearce said the whole experience had been very upsetting for the people using the centre.
