Demolition work is starting on a city hospital as part of a multi-million pound project to replace it with a new facility. The former urology centre at Derby City General is being knocked down as the department has already been transferred to a new building on the site.
A new car park will be built on the urology site as part of the 333m private finance initiative.
The NHS will lease the facility from the private consortium for 35 years.
All facilities from Derbyshire Royal Infirmary (DRI) will be transferred to the new site by the end of 2008.
Other buildings are being demolished over the next few weeks.
Work started on the project nearly two years ago.
