Boy windsurfer is record breaker
Richard Jones
The teenager is planning to cross the Irish Sea next year
A teenager from Derbyshire has become the youngest person to cross the Channel on a windsurfing board.

Richard Jones, a 15-year-old from Hulland Ward, took just one hour and 14 minutes to become a record breaker.

The threat of rain and strong winds mid-Channel did not put the young sportsman off his 22-mile attempt, averaging a speed of 25 miles per hour.

Richard Jones said: "I set myself a lot of personal challenges and it's a good feeling to achieve them."

Although suffering from a sore neck and arms, Richard said he was happy and relieved to have completed the crossing.

He added that next year he would be setting out on another record attempt, this time to cross the Irish Sea.
