A Derbyshire town is being turned into a noisy car park by airport traffic, some have residents said. A shuttle service set up by bus operator Arriva has led to roads in Melbourne being clogged with parked cars, it has been claimed.
A residents association said cars were being left in the village to avoid parking charges at the airport.
Arriva said they monitor the situation regularly and have no evidence of people leaving their cars.
Service inspected
Brian Canavan, chair of the local residents association on Castle Street, said: "As the holiday season gets into full swing, more people will come here and use the roads as a free car park.
"If they leave their cars they can save themselves 100 at a time."
The hourly Air Link 69 service to Nottingham East Midlands Airport was started in October and runs from before six am until after midnight.
Keith Myatt, communications and media relations director at Arriva, said: "We have a monitoring team who inspect the service and they have found no evidence of people using Melbourne as a car park.
"There is some leaving of cars but this is short term and uses local facilities like pubs and shops."
