Two Derby schools are trying to raise cash for artificial football pitches costing almost 2m. The two specialist community sports colleges at Derby Moor and Lees Brook say the facilities will also benefit the wider community.
While there are other artificial pitches in the area, sports officials say demand is greater than space.
Both schools hope to get 60% funding from the Football Foundation and pay for the rest themselves.
Currently there are artificial pitches in Derby at Moorways, Derby College and Woodlands school, but the Derbyshire Local Football Partnership says those are not enough.
Derby Moor wants to build a 7-a-side pitch costing more than 800,000 and Leesbrook a 1.1m 11-a-side facility.
