Waiting times cut for MRI scans
Patient having MRI scan
MRI scans are used to detect a variety of conditions
Waiting lists for MRI scans in Derby have been reduced to 12 weeks.

Patients with non-urgent conditions had to wait more than a year for the scans 18 months ago.

Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust thought the waiting period was too long and set about trying to reduce the waiting time.

It has cut waiting times to 12 weeks by buying a second MRI scanner for the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary and using a visiting mobile scanner unit.

MRI scans show the body's soft tissue and can be used to diagnose a variety of conditions ranging from back complaints to cancer.
