About 60,000-worth of new speed cameras are being installed at two accident blackspots in Derbyshire. Seven devices will be put up on the A608 in Langley Mill and on the B5010 in Sandiacre, where 12 people have died in accidents since 2002.
Derbyshire Safety Camera Partnership claimed other calming measures were not suitable for the roads.
Project manager Maggie Ward said: "It was decided that cameras were the only way of reducing these casualties."
Slow down
There have been 46 collisions between vehicles on these stretches of highway in the past two years.
Road safety group, Safe Speed, has previously claimed speed cameras are making roads in the county more dangerous.
It said they made drivers look at the speedometer more - and less at where they were going.
But Ms Ward said: "Because of the high number of collisions that have taken place these routes warrant additional camera enforcement to encourage drivers to slow down before anyone else is injured."
The cameras will be installed in the coming weeks.
