Ten Derbyshire schools and an outdoor activity centre are to benefit from improvements totalling almost �2m. Derbyshire County Council has given the go-ahead to the works, which include improving classrooms, creating childcare places and re-roofing.
Council leaders said the cash would help modernise schools in the county.
Education spokeswoman Councillor Anne Western said: "I'm delighted we are able to invest in these schemes which will improve accommodation."
The schools receiving the cash are Heath Primary, Chesterfield, Stubbin Wood School, Langwith Junction, Fairfield Nursery and Infant School, Buxton, Holme Hall Primary School, Chesterfield and Brookfield Primary School, Shirebrook.
The others are Chaucer Infant and Nursery, Ilkeston, Grange Primary, Long Eaton, Anthony Gell School, Wirksworth, Swanwick Primary School, Langley Mill Junior School and Brockley Primary School, Chesterfield and White Hall Activity Centre, Buxton.
