Homes to be built on former mine
Eyam in Derbyshire
The village is located in the Peak District National Park
Plans to build 27 affordable homes in a Peak District village have been given the go-ahead by councillors.

The development at Eyam in north Derbyshire had faced opposition by campaigners who claimed it would spoil the area.

Planners and parish councillors also approved the building of a free car park in the village.

The Council for the Protection of Rural England said the project is totally out of keeping with countryside.

The site, abandoned wasteland around the former Glebe Mine, will offer affordable housing - a move supported by some local people.

The park authority also supported the plan.
