Increase in lorry thefts expected
Lorry drivers are being warned of the dangers posed by thieves who slash the curtain-sides of their vehicles.

There have already been 13 offences this year at the Tibshelf services on the M1 in north Derbyshire.

Police say there is often an increase in these kind of thefts in the run-up to Christmas.

They are asking truckers to report any damage - even if nothing is taken - so they can get a better picture of the number of offences taking place.

Prevension plans

Last year eight offences occurred in November and December at the same location.

Det Supt Steve Cotterill, the force's director of intelligence, said: "We need to get a true picture of the number of offences happening in Derbyshire.

"If we know where these instances of damage or theft occur we can plan preventative action to make sure the offences are kept to a minimum.

"It will also help us trace and arrest the offenders."
