A Derbyshire school will be closed for two days after fears burglars may have exposed asbestos in a classroom on Thursday night. Mill Hill School in Ripley will stay closed until Monday while safety checks are carried out.
A ceiling at the school was damaged after a projector was ripped out, head teacher David Anstead said in a statement on the school website.
He said there was only "a remote possibility" asbestos dust escaped.
Parents were informed immediately and students who were unable to go home were supervised by staff in a canteen.
Parent Paul Ottowell said he is happy the school acted quickly to protect the pupils and staff.
But one Year 11 student at the school said there was "a lot of panic" in the immediate aftermath of the announcement.
"I was scared at the time due to lack of information," Lee Bates, 15, told BBC News.
