The junction is already a known bottleneck onto the motorway |
Drivers in part of Derbyshire are being warned to expect three months of disruption due to safety improvements on the A38. The work will be concentrated on the approach to junction 28 of the M1.
From Friday, new electronic warning signs are being installed, bridge repairs will be carried out and a new lower noise surfacing will be laid.
With one carriageway in each direction being closed and a contraflow set up, drivers are warned delays could double.
Adrian Slack from the Highways Agency said the area is already a bottleneck.
"Regular users of junction 28 going on to the A38 will know that there are already considerable delays at the junction, particularly northbound.
"The queuing can already extend there a couple of miles. Obviously with us reducing it down to one lane that queuing will, I expect, double."
