Green light for shopping centre
Plans to expand and modernise shopping facilities in Derby's city centre have been given the green light by the government.

A compulsory purchase order has been granted to Westfield Shopping Towns to develop land around the Eagle and Main centres.

Some traders had objected to the project.

However city council planners say it will be a "massive" improvement to the area.

The city council's planning manager Jonathan Guest said: "It's obviously good news that we've got the got to the stage where the project for the expansion of the Eagle Centre can go ahead.

"The developers will now be working on a detailed programme to enable that to happen as quickly as possible.

"It is going to be a massive improvement to shopping facilities within the city centre in Derby on a scale which hasn't been seen for many, many years."
