A number of Peak District villages are joining forces to campaign against plans to replace a road bridge. Derbyshire County Council wants to raise the height of the Fenny Bentley bridge on the A515 after a number of serious accidents involving lorries.
The council says it would reduce the risk of collisions and damage, but villagers fear it will open the floodgates to hundreds more HGVs.
Resident Elaine Whitcroft said they are determined to protect the area.
She said: "If we have to lie across the road, we will lie across the road. We are very very upset about it."
Derbyshire Police said there are regular patrols at the bridge to try to reduce the number of accidents.
The Peak Park Authority has yet to rule on the bridge plans.
