Derby is getting its first NHS walk-in centre as part of a �12m government investment to ensure people have 24-hour access to medical advice. The move is part of the next wave of NHS centres, bringing the total across England to 82.
Central Derby Primary Care Trust has been given �2.2m to run the service in the city centre.
A site has not been confirmed but plans are to be drawn up later this year and the centre will open in 2006.
Walk-in centres were first set up in 2000 to provide quick access to advice and treatment for minor ailments and injuries.
The government says more than four million people have visited them so far.
