Gangs face new police crackdown
New powers are being given to police to break up crowds of young people in Chesterfield in Derbyshire.

The Dispersal Order allows officers to break up groups of more than two people they perceive to be behaving in an anti-social way.

They can also take home under-16s out between the hours of 9pm and 6am.

The order, which runs for the next three months, has been made in response to the number of nuisance complaints made in Newbold and the town centre.

The powers given under section 30 of the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003 have been introduced in a partnership between Chesterfield Borough Council and Derbyshire Police.

Anyone who fails to disperse in the two areas can be arrested. The maximum penalty is three months in prison or a fine of 2,500.

Section 30 orders are already being used by Derbyshire Police and its partners in Buxton, Derby and Shirebrook to tackle anti-social behaviour.
