The design met with controversy when it was revealed | A multi-million pound art centre in the centre of Derby may not be built because there is not enough money to pay for it. An ultra modern stainless steel and glass design for The Quad was unveiled in April by the city council. But now the council has admitted that it is almost 5m short of the 12.5m needed for the Market Place building. Councillors are now considering using an existing building to house the arts centre. The arts centre was to feature a three-screen cinema, galleries and film-making facilities.
