Millions extra for schools
Schools in Derbyshire have been given more than 10m of extra Government cash to help with day to day running.

The money will be allocated directly to the schools themselves and is expected to be used to employ more staff and buy more books and equipment.

A total 17.7m extra has been set aside but over 7m of this will be swallowed up by inflation.

After consultation it has been decided two-thirds of the money will go to nursery and primary schools.

Alan Charles, Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for education, said: " "This has only been made possible because the government has made a major commitment to give Derbyshire a fairer funding deal.

"We have campaigned over many years to deal with past issues of under funding compared to other authorities.

"The Government has listened and responded in a very positive way by giving us the biggest increase we have ever had."
