Abbey closes call centre
The High Street bank Abbey is to close its Derby call centre, resulting in the loss of almost 200 jobs.

The service is being moved to India.

The call centre in Green Lane which deals with current account customer inquiries will close by the end of October along with centres in Edinburgh and Warrington, in Cheshire.

A site in Bradford will also be affected.

Staff in Derby were told of the decision at a mass meeting on Wednesday morning.

Redundancy packages are expected to range between one and a half weeks for each year of employment to three and a half weeks for longer-serving staff.

The bank said it was a tough decision which followed an 11-month review of its operations.

It said in a statement: "Every effort will be made to redeploy people." affected before redundancies are made
