Farmers are not convinced the price rise will help |
A group of Derbyshire farmers protesting against the price they receive for milk may be closer to a settlement. The group has been staging regular nightly protests at the ACC plant in Alfreton campaigning for an increase in the price per litre they are paid.
The latest demonstration at the plant was held on Tuesday night.
ACC says it plans to increase the price of cheese and any money will be passed directly back to farmers.
Farmers doubtful
Tony Jackson, one of the protestors, says they will wait to see what sort of impact it has.
He said: "They have promised that more money will be returned to the dairy farmers but only some milk is used for cheese.
"The rest of it goes into bottles and other products, so we are hoping it will have some bearing on the price.
"But we don't know how much and we are doubtful it will give us the increase we are looking for"
