Family's plea over soldier's death
Michael Aston
Michael Aston says the family cannot move on
The family of a soldier who was killed in Iraq is demanding an inquiry into how he he died.

Corporal Russell Aston, 30, was one of six British military policemen shot dead three months ago, while defending a police station in southern Iraq.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) says an investigation is being carried out.

But Corporal Aston's father Michael is angry that he has been told no more.

He said: "We have been left to speculate on how he died.

"That is a bad thing because we are looking back all the time.

"Its simply so I can put my son to rest.

"Not knowing is a torture. We need to know specifically what happened at the time of the battle and also why they were sent there.

"Surely to goodness someone must know."

Corporal Aston, who was married with a 17-month-old daughter, died when he was with a group of colleagues who were attacked a crowd of Iraqis in a remote town.

The MoD has acknowledged the family's request but cannot say when they will release more information.
