Calls for church to serve Muslims

A Muslim cleric from Leicester says a disused church in the city would be a good building to use as a mosque.

Sheikh Ibrahim Mogra says St Marks Church in Belgrave would make it an excellent venue for a mosque.

The church once served a thriving Anglican community.

But in recent times, many Christians have moved out of the area and the building is now in need of repair.

Many Somali Muslims live close to the church and Mr Mogra believes this would make it an excellent venue for a mosque.

He was speaking after the publication of a new report into places of worship in Leicestershire, which says sharing vacant buildings can draw together entire communities.
