Few people are attracted to work in the court system

The Magistrate shadowing scheme, which is run by an organisation called Operation Black Vote was first publicised across Derbyshire in May.

Despite success in other parts of the country the project has yet to attract any interest in the area.

There are eight places available for members of the black and ethnic minority communities to shadow a magistrate for six months.

Operation Black Vote said there has been a shortage of black and ethnic participants to pursue careers as magistrates.

The aim is also to give the judiciary a greater understanding of minority communities.
