The travellers are being asked to leave the park
Council officials have cancelled a night-time wildlife event at a county park because of security concerns.

Derbyshire County Council says travellers camped at a Shipley Country Park in Heanor are causing problems at the site.

The council says it could not guarantee the security at the cancelled event because of worries over theft and vandalism.

The Nightwatch event was planned for Saturday.

Eviction notice

A statement from the council said the travellers are responsible for posts being removed and stones being thrown at visitors.

One traveller who asked not to be named denied they had done anything wrong.

She said: "They are complaining so they can get rid of us quicker."

"We are treated as outcasts but we are born British."

Derbyshire Police said there has not been any increase in crime in the area since the travellers arrived.

The council has said it will cost thousands of pounds to clean up the mess left by the travellers.

A notice has been handed to the travellers telling them they face an order to move on after Tuesday.
