Raynesway Recycling and Household Waste Centre, which is owned by the city council, has been undergoing a �250,000 revamp over the past three months.

During that time, a temporary facility has been run from an old bunker site nearby.

The improved tip will be capable of processing up to 40,000 tonnes a year - roughly double what the old centre could handle.

The work included replacing walkways leading up to the skips with a sloping ramp which people can drive up.

Waste manager Alan Whileman said: "We are very pleased that the site is now available to the public after these three months of renovation.

"The new site is going to be a lot more customer friendly and deal with a lot more through-put of waste and hopefully provide a lot better service for the people of Derby."
