People power guides council cash
A Derby Street
Forms will be posted to homes in the areas
Run-down areas of Derby are to benefit from 200,000 of funding and residents will get a say in how its spent.

Osmaston, Allenton, Normanton and Peartree, the Woodlands Estate in Chellaston, and the Abbey and Stockbrook areas of the City will be the areas to benefit, receiving around 50,000 each.

The money comes from the city council's Renaissance Fund, designed to regenerate deprived districts.

Residents will be sent a form asking for suggestions to improve community safety and local environment.

Graffiti blitz

Joblessness, crime, education, ill health, and housing are the area that will be specifically targeted during the project.

The feedback will guide ward councillors in making the final decisions on how the money will be spent.

This money is for projects that will come to fruition very quickly
Councillor Evonne Berry
Examples of work identified by local residents and carried out with cash from last year's round of Renaissance Funding include 5,000 of improvements to the Police House on Browning Circle.

The fund also provided 5,000 to clean-up the Prince Charles shopping area on Mackworth Estate and a 2,500 blitz on graffiti at Leesbrook School.

The shopping area on Scarborough Rise, in the Breadsall Hilltop area of the city, had a 16,000 refurbishment.

Councillor Evonne Berry, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Social Inclusion, Youth and Community, and Chair of the DCP Neighbourhood Renewal Fund Management Group, said: "This money is for projects that will come to fruition very quickly.

"People who come up with ideas that we adopt will see visible results in a matter of months, rather than years."
