Views sought on Workington's replacement bridges

People in Workington are being asked for their views on the design of two replacement bridges after they were destroyed in the November Floods.

The Northside and Navvies bridges collapsed after flood waters swept Cumbria last year.

The council-led initiative wants people to offer ideas so they can incorporate them into the designs of the permanent bridge structures.

A temporary road bridge, reconnecting the town, was opened in April.

'Shape the future'

The town was effectively split in half when the floods destroyed Northside Bridge and claimed the life of police officer, PC Bill Barker.

People are invited to a drop-in session at Workington's Carnegie theatre between noon and 1900 BST on Friday 14 May to share their views.

Marie Fallon, Cumbria County Council's environment corporate director, said: "The loss of bridges has had a major impact on Workington and the importance of the bridges to the town has been highlighted through the floods.

"As part of re-providing permanent bridges we want to ensure that the people of Workington play their part in shaping the future of their town and the structures that are vitally important to it."
