Missing nuclear flasks 'low risk'

It is believed the missing canisters are on the premises

Two canisters containing nuclear material have gone missing at the Sellafield plant in Cumbria.

The small containers, containing material from the 1970s, were reported missing during a routine stocktake.

But a spokeswoman confirmed the containers contained material of a "low risk" - grade one on a scale of one to 7 - and could not be easily opened.

She also confirmed that it was believed they were on the premises and a thorough search would be carried out.
