The sheep were cut of by floodwaters in Carlisle |
Flooding has affected many parts of Cumbria over the past 24 hours. In Carlisle, more than 100 sheep were left stranded in rising water upstream of Eden bridge. The Environment Agency said efforts were being made to recover the animals and that more than 20 flood alerts remained in force in the county. No-one was reported injured, but some homes in the Cockermouth area were evacuated for a time on Saturday, with several inches of rainfall reported. Cumbria County Council said sandbags had been distributed to the worst-affected areas.
