Drivers are warned to be careful as roads in Cumbria flood
Cumbria's coastal communities remain braced for the threat of tidal flooding despite alert levels being scaled down.

The Environment Agency (EA) has downgraded warnings along the Scottish borders to Morecambe Bay to Flood Watch - its lowest level of alert.

The move comes as rain and fierce winds continue to sweep across the UK.

Some county roads have already flooded - the road north of Allonby is closed after a 12-metre stretch of it was washed away by a tidal surge.

The road at Sandside between Milnthorpe and Arnside in the south of the county is also flooded.

Further inland, a fallen tree has partially blocked the northbound slipway at the Tebay services.

A66 trans-Pennine traffic is slow moving due to snow and strong winds between Brough and County Durham.

Some lorries chose to stop and shelter at the side of the route to avoid being toppled by the gusts, as snow ploughs worked to keep the road open.
