Business warning over phone scam
Cumbrian businesses are being warned to be on their guard against a telephone sales scam.

A number of firms in the county have been contacted by cold-callers claiming to be selling advertising space on behalf of Cumbria Police.

They then claim the adverts will be placed in emergency services publications such as news sheets, magazines, diaries and leaflets.

Businesses are being urged to note the time and date of the call.

Sgt Andy Baines of Cumbria Constabulary crime reduction unit said: "We are concerned that people might be parting with money in the belief they have spoken to someone from the force and are supporting Cumbria Police, which is not the case.

"If you are contacted by phone by someone asking you to buy advertising space, make a note of the time and date of the call and their contact details.

"Before parting with any money, contact the organisation they claim they are working for."
